Back Bay Sunsets Are Best in August

South Jersey Fishing Report for August: As we hit the month of August the tuna bite is in full stride with yellowfin being landed with regularity at the canyons, and bluefin hitting lures on the nearshore lumps.  Trolling spreader bars and jigging have been working on both yellowfin and bluefin.  The canyons are also loaded with good numbers of mahi.  Fluke fishing began to rebound with a few days of north and easterly winds and there was some fish being caught on open bottom.  The wrecks and reef sites have been producing some keepers, but anglers are doing better with sea bass and ling.  The back bays continue to be good for flounder with shops reporting decent action on short fish, but anglers having to work for keepers.

Avalon Grace Period on Third Quarter Taxes Extended to August 19th: At the July 24, 2024, meeting of the Avalon Borough Council, a resolution was approved to extend the grace period on third quarter taxes to August 19, 2024.  This was necessary because the County issued the final certification of the Avalon tax rate this week.  The interest charge from August 1st-19th is zero percent.  Here is the official tax certification from the County, which demonstrates the Avalon tax rate at 20.6 cents, a zero increase over 2023: Read More

Daily All Summer, Wetlands Institute Salt Marsh Safari: Watch our award-winning film, Secrets of the Salt Marsh, then join us for an interpretive walk through the wetlands!  Together we will travel along our elevated walkway, down the salt marsh trail, and out onto the dock overlooking Scotch Bonnet creek.  To fully experience the marsh, make sure to wear shoes that can get wet and muddy! Weekdays: 10:00am, 12:00pm, 2:00pm  – Weekends:  11:00am and 1:00pm, Free with admission.
