Important Safety Alert: South Jersey Gas Notifications

As temperatures drop below 20°F this week, South Jersey Gas shares an important update for island residents. The company is currently replacing gas meters; however, property owners do not always receive advance notifications. When gas is shut off, the property owner or an authorized representative must meet with South Jersey Gas to restore service.

What to Do If Your Gas Service is Affected:

  • Contact South Jersey Gas directly with any questions or concerns.
  • Plan ahead if you’re not on-site by arranging for someone to meet the gas company.
  • Take proactive measures to ensure your property stays safe during the winter freeze.

New Mulch Regulations in New Jersey for 2025

As of April 15, 2025, the New Jersey Fire Code will include updated regulations on the use of combustible mulch materials. This change specifically applies to rental properties (excluding owner-occupied single and two-family homes). Key highlights of the regulation:

  • No mulch within 18 inches of buildings, decks, porches, or balconies.
  • No mulch near any designated smoking areas as defined by the 2018 International Fire Code, NJ edition.

Avalon Streets Project: Winter/Spring 2025

Avalon is undergoing significant infrastructure improvements as part of the Winter/Spring Streets Project. The work is being conducted by Fred M. Schiavone Construction, Inc., with upgrades planned for:

  • Dune Drive (Southbound, 34th–38th Streets) – Water and sewer improvements.
  • 38th Street Beach Block – Water and sewer upgrades.
  • 78th Street (Ocean to Sunset Drives) – Sewer and stormwater enhancements.

Portions of this project are funded by a grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation. Residents should expect temporary disruptions and are encouraged to check for updates on traffic flow and construction schedules.
