Sept 1: Tim Kerr Charities 7 Mile Island Run and 5K Run/Walk, starts at Avalon Community Hall, 8:30am. It’s the 31st anniversary of the Tim Kerr Charities 7 Mile Island Run, and this year’s event is expected to bring in some elite competitors. Do you have what it takes to keep up? Learn more.
Sept 6-8: Avalon Chamber End-of-Summer Shop Hop, Avalon Shopping District, 9am-5pm each day. Wash away those end of summer blues with some retail therapy. Shop local stores and get great deals, sweet treats, refreshments, and more. Learn more.
Sept 7: Get in Gear: Exceptional Bike ‘n Stroll Experience, 519 Stone Harbor Blvd, 9am-10pm. Bike, walk, or run along the scenic Avalon shore and browse artisanal wares from more than 80 local merchants. $25 entrance fee gets you free food (including lunch), drinks, gear, and more. Sept 8: Surf Fishing Tournament, Avalon Community Hall, 7am. Attend the 57th Annual H.W. Shaner Surf Fishing Tournament and test your luck in the waters of Avalon. $50 entrance fee for teams and $10 fee for individuals, with lunch included and the chance to win some prizes. Learn more.
Sept 11: Stone Harbor 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony, Freedom Park, 11am-1pm. The Borough of Stone Harbor is joining communities across the nation in paying homage to the men and women who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. [LM1]
Sept 14: 24th Annual Nuns’ Beach Surf Contest, 111th Street, Stone Harbor, 7am. It’s a jam packed day, with family-fun surfing and plenty of home cooked food. Raise money for the Villa Maria by the Sea Retreat House and enjoy a warm day in the sun at the same time. Learn more.
Sept 21: Fall Migration Festival, The Wetlands Institute, 9:30am-4:30pm. Witness firsthand the amazing migration of thousands of birds as they make their way across the Cape May Peninsula. Bird enthusiasts of all ages are encouraged to experience this once-a-year phenomenon. Learn more.
Sept 21: Savor September 7th Annual Food, Wine & Beer Festival, 96th Street Shopping District, noon-8pm.
