Avalon Beach Update – 11/22/04
Good news from Washington
for future beach replenishment projects…
the following are excerpts from yesterdays Atlantic City Press.
The U.S. House of
Representatives approved more than $23 million
for local beach-replenishment and construction projects Saturday,
including $12.6 million for Avalon’s beaches.
Of particular note was
funding for beach replenishment in Avalon.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has said it will not handle future
sand restocking there, prompting Avalon and a North Carolina town
to threaten a lawsuit against the Secretary of the Army for a breach of
a prior agreement.
Avalon Mayor Martin
Pagliughi said that even though Congress
may fund the work, the Corps of Engineers may still refuse to do the
work. “There may still be a fight on this one,” Pagliughi said.
